Our Work

The benefits of singing for a person with dementia are well documented, but our group is also very beneficial to the carer. Caring for someone with dementia can be very lonely and stressful at times. By building bonds with others in the same situation, the choir helps to break down isolation and affords an enjoyable break from routine.

In addition to our Wednesday morning meetings held at St John's Church Halls in Hamilton, Musical Memories Choir have now performed in public at a number of local events since we formed in 2011. We have sung at local conferences and other events related to senior citizens and dementia in particular, and our intention is to raise awareness of the condition and promote a positive perspective.
